(February 6th, 2018) – Fellow metalheads, I urge you to take the time today to stretch your calves and find your center. Carefully inspect the dexterity of your agile fingers; massage the ligaments and tendons that line your fine legs and wrap around your heels and ankles. All in alignment? Good. The time has come to kick over your chairs and trash hard and heavy: Act Of Defiance is gearing up to hit the road soon.

Yes, it’s true: the heavy metal group featuring the talents of Chris Broderick (ex-Megadeth), Shawn Drover (ex-Megadeth), Matt Bachand (Shadows Fall, Times Of Grace), and Henry Derek (Scar The Martyr) will be taking the U.S. by storm in support of their latest release Old Scars, New Wounds, which released last year via Metal Blade Records. The tour, which spans nearly the entirety of the month of March and ’round the country, will receive support from the bone-crunching, fiery Texans in Shattered Sun.

“[We are] extremely excited to be touring in March for the release of our newest CD Old Scars, New Wounds. We are very happy to have along with us our friends in Shattered Sun and are stoked to see what they bring to a live show as I know they will kill it!” – Chris Broderick

Old Scars, New Wounds was once aptly described by Team Rock as “technical, extreme metal that’s as versatile as it is hard-hitting-” a point that also became a promise in the accolades that followed. The album debuted at #20 on the Billboard Top New Artist Albums charts, as well as #58 on the Canadian Hard Music Charts upon its release, marking yet another critical milestone in Act Of Defiance’s career. “Act Of Defiance is built around the idea of writing and composing the way we want without any other influences on the music, and if people don’t like it, that’s fine,” states Broderick. That same attitude rang true throughout the band’s merciless 2015 debut Birth and the Burial, which delivered an unabating wash of crushing pure metal after crushing pure metal. The same can be said of their latest endeavour, only the bar ahs been set even higher. Brutalizing, bloodthirsty, and downright terror-inciting, Old Scars, New Wounds is an album that will shake you to your core.
It’s hard to believe that the quartet had no real ‘grand plan’ when going into recording. Spread across the continental US, the individual members worked separately, bouncing demos back and forth and building on each others’ ideas. The result was the creation of a record that is very much a collaborative effort, despite the distances lying between the members’ home bases. Recruiting producer Dave Otero (Cattle DecapitationAllegaeon), Act Of Defiance tracked the record likewise, with Broderick laying down guitars in his own Ill-Fated Studios in LA, Derek and Broderick’s vocals tracked at Red Light Studios also in LA, with Bachand tracking his contributions at Manshark in South Hampton, MA and Drover’s drums were laid down at Atlanta’s Glow In The Dark Studios.
