The woes of Microsoft’s exclusive catalog this generation has been extensively covered and is clearly being actively rectified for the next generation. In fact, this year saw the lowest output of exclusives from Microsoft and featured no exclusively digital content. With that said, gamers were given a completely new experience and IP in Sea of Thieves and a critically acclaimed fourth entry in a beloved racing series. Okay let’s face it, the Nintendo Switch was having a sophomore slump there for a while. Combined by the lack of many notable 3DS exclusives, 2018 was on the light end for Nintendo until the holidays came around. The debate turned hot as Super Smash Bros. Quite frankly this was one of three categories I was expecting a battle between the top contenders. God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man were head and shoulders above the rest of the crop.
